Gynaecological Treatments by Dr Damasco

Laparoscopy

A minimally invasive procedure that uses a telescope to examine the pelvic organs and treat disease through key-hole surgery performed through 5-10mm incisions.

Myomectomy

A surgical procedure to remove fibroids – a usually non-canerous growth of muscle cells that can grow in the pelvis. Fibroids are associated with heavy periods, pelvic pressure symptoms such as urinary frequency and reduced fertility. Many of these can be safely performed by laparaoscopy.

Ovarian Cystectomy

The removal of a cyst with preservation of the ovary when it has become too large, is abnormal or is causing pain using minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery.

Advanced Laparoscopy

When advanced skills training allows the surgeon to treat more significant amounts of pathology using minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery and avoiding the need to make a large abdominal incision (laparotomy).

Hysteroscopy

A procedure that allows inspection of the inside of the uterus with a thin telescope inserted through the cervix. It is used to diagnose and treat conditions such as abnormal or heavy bleeding and uterine polyps.

Endometrial Ablation

A procedure remove the lining of the uterus (by vaporisation of the endometrium with energy) to stop or reduce menstrual flow. It is quick, safe and very effective.

Hysterectomy

The surgical removal of the uterus, which may be used to treat conditions including fibroidsendometriosis, prolapse, cancer or adenomyosis. The ovaries are usually left behind in order to prevent menopause. The majority of these can be performed using laparoscopic techniques.

Hysteroscopic Resection

The removal of fibroidspolyps or other growths from inside the uterus, using an energy cutting loop or other device such as Myosure with a hysteroscopy.

Robotic Surgery

This is an alternative way of performing a laparoscopy and uses a large robot controlled by a surgeon. This may allow the surgeon to perform a more complex procedure with possible benefit of less post operative pain.
